The world in which we live is getting busier and busier and we are required to move faster and faster, just to keep up. The pressure under which we find ourselves can seriously affect our outlook and the significant relationships in our lives.
People from all over North America and Europe have decided to find some solace and Sabbath time here at St. Mary’s Abbey, many coming back year after year.
Private retreats here are times of quiet reflection, experiencing nature, prayer, spiritual reading, meditation and fellowship with the monastic community. Private retreatants are invited to join the Monks in any or all of the daily prayer sessions in which they recite or chant the Liturgy of the Hours. They then break bread with the community in the monks; refectory.
Priests are also available to meet with retreatants for private conversation and/or the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We suggest these requests be pre-arranged to assure availability.
Whenever possible, private retreatants are offered one of several suites we have available, which consist of a bedroom, sitting room with comfortable seating, writing desk, and private bath.
We sincerely hope you’ll come to spend a few days with us. We promise to send you away fully charged and centered. We’re confident that, like most of our guests, you’ll want to come back often and regularly.
Generally, private retreat guests are welcomed from Monday through Friday although we do have limited capacity to accommodate private retreats on weekends.
Please call to discuss your specific dates and requirements (973) 538-3235, ext. 2100, or email our Retreat Center Director, Paul Cocco, at retreatcenter@delbarton.org.
