November is the month of All Souls, commending to the Lord the faithful departed.
In 998, St. Odo, the Abbot of Cluny, instituted a commemoration of deceased monks. It soon spread to all Cluniac monasteries. Eventually the celebration was adopted by some diocese in France and finally by the western church. By the 14
th century All Souls was adopted by Rome and the Universal Church.
Throughout the month the names of your beloved dead will be placed at the foot of the altar and remembered at prayer. There's still time to submit names by emailing
Karen Schiner at abbey reception.
May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace!
